First Blog Post, Ver. 2.0

Hey y'awl.

Here I am, writing my very first blog post....can you virtually scrapbook moments like these? It seems like just yesterday I swore I'd never leave another trace on the internet. I can't believe I'm starting a blog, really. But I want to in light of the fact that I don't have a facebook (for reasons I myself don't really understand, so don't bother asking why). Maybe it's because my last attempt at internet longevity ended pretty badly- I'm pretty sure that somewhere on the "web"lie the fossils of a very poorly maintained blog I had to keep for a freshman French literature class. Apologies to Luc Monnin, a truly amazing teacher, for never writing in it.

So, here's another go at a blog. This time, though, I feel like I can write freely without worrying about what the hell the "undoing of a novel" is (no offense, Luc). So to all my friends and family checking this out: thank you for very much, you can expect a check for $0.35 in the mail within the next five months (I've heard AirChina is pretty slow with deliveries...). But really, if you are reading this, and I absolutely do not hold it against you if you're not, thank you very much for the love and support. I cherish you all. Really.

And now, here's kind of a test run- an homage to Venice Beach. I love Venice Beach. A lot. I will miss it a lot. Besides having so much character without seeming pretentious, the crap that goes on there and the people are just so hilarious. Like,

A mural at Holy Guacamoly (yes, that's a "y", not an "e"). I'm not an expert in art history, but it looks to me like God is reaching down to Adam. Instead of giving him the divine light or whatever, though, he's actually handing off a greasy, dripping burrito. What's more, his faithful cherubs are making sure He doesn't get tired by providing an endless supply of tacos. Blasphemous?  I think we can all agree that burritos are next to godliness. On the subject of murals-the image of Arnold Schwarzenegger that's on the top of this page? From a mural just down the street from Holy Guac owned by the Legend himself. Pretty rad... and egotistical.
Here's an adorable man with an adorable puppy sitting outside Holy Guac. There was probably a flock of five people around this guy, which I was able bypass thanks to my press pass. not really... But this is a pretty typical scene around Venice- somebody with a puppy, parrot, ferret, snake, etc. in tow both for companionship and maybe also because they like being gawked at.
Arbor skate shop. Just opened up a new location on the boardwalk. Specializing in longboards, snowboards, and apparel.

And on that note, I bid you all a good night. I don't plan on taking chummy pictures with TSA agents or hopeful pictures of L.A. from high above in the plane, so you can rest assured my next post will come from the real, live China. Until then, keep on keepin' on. I wish you all well and already miss you all terribly.
